He calls, SUVs such as the RAV4, Honda CR-V and Ford Escape are now sold more than a mid-size sedans like the Camry or Honda Accord.
But this year, continued Carter, Toyota will sell more than 300,000 of about 425,000 RAV4 and Camry sedan market conditions reduced.
In fact, to welcome the glory of SUV models, Toyota will import most RAV4 from Japan to complement the RAV4 made in Canada. Toyota also will add a second plant that produces the RAV4 in Canada to be able to produce 400,000 units per year in North America.
"There is a shift that is really dramatic in consumer prefensi. Five years ago, if someone said the compact SUV will beat mid-size sedan, I might argue with that," said Carter.
